Pilates is a unique
combination of stretching and strengthening exercises that condition every part
of the body. Created by Joseph Pilates in the late 1800’s to overcome his
own physical weaknesses, this technique was shown to improve health and help
patients recover from injury. Recently it has become popular with dancers,
performers, actors, celebrities and socialites wishing to strengthen and tone
their bodies. Classes at the BCWA are taught by a certified instructor and
consist of mat work techniques of muscle control and movement that increase
circulation, improve cardiovascular strength and rid the body of toxins. The
exercises may look easy but they require concentration, control, fluidity,
precision and proper breathing. Practiced regularly, Pilates is a fun way to
strengthen and tone the body while improving posture and flexibility.
